Gingerbread Lady
Tips & Tricks
Meet Linda Lyle
The Gingerbread Lady
20 years ago I had no idea how to make a gingerbread house. One day a local charitable organization, knowing I was a baker asked if I could make a gingerbread house for a table decoration for an event they were hosting. That one house set off a 20 year history of making gingerbread houses and hosting an annual gingerbread contest and auction.
I fell in love with gingerbread houses! I started by reading books to learn how…now you can just go to the internet. In the beginning it was my friend’s nieces and nephews who would come over and help me build gingerbread houses. We had a blast! That’s when I learned that almost everyone loves gingerbread houses. Seeing the joy and excitement in these kids, I realized gingerbread houses had a much bigger purpose!
About 18 years ago, I put my passion of creating and building gingerbread houses to work by starting an annual gingerbread contest & auction to raise funds for local non-profits. Today, our focus is on kids and youth in our community.
Use these hints and tricks to start building your own gingerbread house and join us in December for the Gingerbread Southwest event.
